Speech & Debate 2012-13 Year in Review

Sights from Open HouseThe Elementary and Varsity Speech and Debate teams competed in six tournaments this year and came away with over 20 trophies and medals for their efforts in a variety of events, including: Duo Interpretation, Storytelling, Original Oratory, Impromptu Speaking, Thematic Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Poetry Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation and Prose Interpretation.

The significance of participating in Speech and Debate in high school was highlighted in a recent Wall Street Journal study which found that “…dedicated participation in drama and debate has significantly increased the success rate of college applicants by more than 60% compared with the rest of the pool and those students have a 22% to 30% higher acceptance rate at top tier colleges.”

This year, the students from grades 3 through 8 that made up our Elementary and Varsity teams, put themselves on that road to success by getting a head start here at St. Rita.
